UEFA Euro 2008- Kick Off

The 2008 Euro is on its way! (that was fast…)

What's the Euro again?

The UEFA Euro Football Championship is a football tournament held once every 4 years between the top European National teams. There are 16 teams participating, playing a total of 32 games.

Euro 2008 is being hosted between June 7 and 29 in Austria and Switzerland.

Who's in?

After the qualifying matches, 16 teams have managed to make it to the tournament. The teams are:

Group A Group B Group C Group D
Portugal Germany France Greece
Czech Republic Croatia Romania Sweden
Switzerland Austria Netherlands Spain
Turkey Poland Italy Russia

The teams of each group will play each of the other teams in the same group. The top 2 teams of each group after these matches will advance to the next round, then the winners will move to the semifinals and finals.

Worth watching?

Like all major football events, yes! Watching the games should be awesome. A few games were already played, but here are a few notable ones you should watch for:

June 10: Spain vs. Russia- for some reason, I like watching Spain play. Russia managed to make it into the tournament while kicking England out, so they've got to have some good moves to back that up.

June 11: Portugal vs. Czech Republic- judging by their first game, Portugal is going big this year. And the Czech Republic don't seem too bad either, this should be a fine game.

June 12: Germany vs. Croatia- should be a good game, both teams won their first games already and are fairly solid teams.

June 17: Italy vs. France- a replay of the last world cup's finals? Unlikely, but these two giants should feature good football nonetheless.

The results, for now…

These will be updated as the Euro progresses.

Group A Points Group B Points Group C Points Group D Points
Portugal 6 Croatia 9 Netherlands 9 Spain 9
Turkey 6 Germany 6 Italy 4 Russia 6
Czech Republic 3 Austria 1 Romania 2 Sweden 3
Switzerland 3 Poland 1 France 1 Greece 0

Last matches:
Sweden vs. Russia: 0-2
Spain vs. Greece: 2-1

All the teams in the group of death have to play hard and try to win. The pressure is on and this makes for great entertainment.
